Snowball Candle Tutorial – Step 1
For this project you will need:
• Approx 200gm paraffin wax (per snowball).
• Approx 15cm of 1″ wick (per snowball).
• Wicking needle
• Hand whisk.
• A hard, smooth, wax-proof working surface – a sheet of glass or kitchen worktop chopping board is ideal.
• Double-boiler or nested pans.**
NB – read right through these instructions and the accompanying pictures. Once the wax is whipped and poured out, you will need to work as quickly as possible in order to get the best results.
**SAFETY! ALWAYS melt wax using the heat of boiling water. NEVER heat wax directly in a pan over a hotplate or burner.
Step 1
Melt the wax. Immerse the wick(s) – to prime and seal – then lay the wick(s) on the work surface to cool. Turn off the heat source and allow wax to cool until skin begins to form, then whisk the wax into thick foam.
Step 2
Gently pour the wax onto the work surface, (Smooth sealed surface such as glass or formica is essential) – see and roughly chop it into pieces as it starts to solidify.
Step 3
Use your hands to compress the chopped wax into a ball.
Step 4
Use the wicking needle to thread the wick through the centre of the ball. Trim one end of the wick flush with the surface and leave about 1cm at the other end.
Step 5
Complete.
